Seeing The World Clearly For The First Time | Lucy’s Story

What if your poor vision could be improved so much that it literally brought you to tears? That’s what happened to one of our patients recently at . A mother and father came into our eye clinic with their 6 year old daughter, Lucy (not her real name).

She had severe myopia, especially for her age, which was affecting her ability to function at school and at home. Her myopia progressed so rapidly that her glasses prescription simply couldn’t keep up. Her day-to-day vision was so poor, even with glasses, that she couldn’t even see that there were leaves on the trees when she went outside.

Lucy’s high myopia not only had short-term affects on her ability to learn in school and function at home, but had the potential to cause serious eye health problems in the future. Children with myopia are at significantly higher risk of developing diseases such as glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration as they get older. The worse the myopia, the higher the risk.

Fortunately, our eye care team has years of experience working with children. We offer myopia management options that can slow or even stop your child’s myopia progression, helping preserve their long-term vision and eye health.

MisightWith Lucy, we felt the best option to serve both her long- and short-term needs was to prescribe MiSight contact lenses. These remarkable lenses allowed Lucy to see more clearly in the short-term, and stopped her myopia from getting worse at the same time. As a matter of fact, Lucy’s vision actually improved after starting with MiSight contacts. Though it’s uncommon for this to happen, it’s not unheard of! And what happened the first time she stepped out in her new MiSight contact lenses? She looked around, saw the world clearly and vividly for the first time, and cried of happiness.

Now, we’re very close with Lucy’s family. She’s doing great in school, and enjoying life. We see Lucy and her family often, and are happy to say they’re doing quite well. We’re happy to consider them part of the Professional Vision family.
